The doctor forbade me to donate blood last Saturday.. She said that the new rules is that for the ppl who stay overnight @ Malaysia (almost all states) shall defer at least 14 days to be eligible to donate blood. I was deferred for 13 days.. JUST ONE MORE DAY!!!! Then, I changed my location from Orchid Country Club to Paya Lebar Kovan Community Centre and the doctor told me the same thing..
*sigh.. the first time I met with such a "LUCKY" situation...
I shall let you know what is CHIKUNGUNYA since I was forbidden to donate blood due to this stupid disease outbreak in Malaysia (SG ALONE ALSO GOT OUTBREAK!)

Proof of Chikungunya outbreak in Singapore!
Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is an insect-borne virus, of the genus, Alphavirus, that is transmitted to humans by virus-carrying Aedes mosquitoes. There have been recent outbreaks of CHIKV associated with severe morbidity. CHIKV causes an illness with symptoms similar to dengue fever. CHIKV manifests itself with a prolonged arthralgic disease that affects the joints of the extremities. The acute febrile phase of the illness lasts only two to five days. The pain associated with CHIKV infection of the joints persists for weeks or months.
Signs and symptomsThe incubation period of Chikungunya disease is from two to four days. Symptoms of the disease include a fever up to 39 ℃ (102.2 ℉), a petechial or maculopapular rash of the trunk and occasionally the limbs, and arthralgia or arthritis affecting multiple joints. Other nonspecific symptoms can include headache, conjunctival injection, and slight photophobia. Typically, the fever lasts for two days and then ends abruptly. However, other symptoms, namely joint pain, intense headache, insomnia and an extreme degree of prostration last for a variable period; usually for about 5 to 7 days. Patients have complained of joint pains for much longer time periods depending on their age.

Ministry's Advice to the Public
In the absence of a vaccine, and the presence of the Aedes mosquito vector, Singapore remains vulnerable and receptive to the introduction of Chikungunya outbreaks. It is likely that cases will continue to occur as long as situations in neighbouring countries do not improve. The full support and cooperation of the community and every stakeholder is needed to minimise the likelihood of the disease becoming endemic in Singapore.
The Ministry advises persons who develop symptoms of chikungunya which include fever, joint pain and rashes to consult their doctors immediately.
Chikungunya fever, like dengue fever, is a mosquito-borne disease and the best way to prevent chikungunya fever is to take precautionary measures against mosquitoes and prevent their breeding. Persons infected with chikungunya fever should be isolated from further mosquito bites so as to reduce the risk of further transmission of the virus. "
